'39 - '40 hood comparison
Can a '40 Standard hood be used on a '39 DeLuxe? Any differences in trim or mounting. I think the latches are different.
The hinge mounts on mine are bent and I'm not having success straightening them. Thanks. |

Pretty sure you can purchase replacement hinge mechanisms.

They were different part numbers, so technically they are different. The cowls and fenders are shared, so that should work. Trim is completely different, so all holes would need to be addressed. I'm not sure on the grill fitment, they are different, but maybe that's just the style and not the actual shape where the hood mates.

I looked up the hinges they are the same for '39 and '40 so the mounts at least must be the same. Bill Last edited by BillW810; 03-01-2021 at 11:51 AM. |

Note that if you go with repro hinges, while the mounting plate is usually OK the arms are bent weird and will need to be reshaped so the hood will lift true and settle down in the back properly. |

Message 40fords on here, his name is Gary and he's right in Wilmington. He'll have whatever you need, original hinges, hood, and anything else for a '40. Anyone in the tri state area with a '40 should have him on speed dial.

Re: '39 - '40 hood comparison
I used a 40 standard hood on my 39 deluxe coupe and it fits perfect. I wanted to remove all the stainless, and the 40 hood has less holes to weld up that is why I used it.
The difference between the early and late 39 hoods are the hood latch support in the front of the hood but you can change the early for the late it bolts right in. If you need a replacement hood let me know I may part with one of mine. I live near the Butler valley exit of the turnpike so you could come and check it out and compare it to yours. Let me know |
