Kiwi, we ran a potvin eliminator in the first dragster engine we used,it was hilborn injected ran good and pulled from 1000 rpm,we revved this engine to 5700 for nearly three years, not a drama,

Thanks Lawrie , I have a set of very early hilborn injectors with the angled stacks , did you use radiused lifters with it ?

Re: Flathead Cams Info needed -what do you have
The Potvin 425 doesn't need radius lifters. Nice bunch of cams, seem like you have one for every application. From mild to wiled.

Is that an isky 400 Jr or an isky 404?
Just clearing ambiguity. Thanks Martin. |

Re: Flathead Cams Info needed -what do you have
That 404 for a V8 60 is a rare bird and should bring some decent $$. I would assume you'd need to run radius lifters in this motor as well for the larger V8's running 404 cams required them.

I would love to hear that little 60 with that cam. I bet it sounds like a $1 mil. bucks. When you have it together, please post a sound clip. I've read that the 404 grind is one of the best flathead cams around. Some claim even better than the famous Potvin Eliminator. You'll run out of revs before you run out of cam. |

Re: Flathead Cams Info needed -what do you have
Kiwi, I used the original small pad hollow lifters with the cam,no radius, they still look good.

Re: Flathead Cams Info needed -what do you have
Ahh right, didn't see the v8 60 reference in your first post. Must read all the words.
I'd love to hear that cam run, with lightened everything. Reckon it'd sound like a buzz saw. I love cams aswell. Got a H&C 3/4 that came out of a swap meet engine I bought for £50. It has a hole in one inlet port, cool old style full relief and some sizable inlet ports. The reason I took it home was that it had adjustable lifters in him. Got home popped it to bits, lifters are old hollow johnsons and the H&C cam. Made me very happy. Ran it in a mate's engine, pulled from very low down, iddled with a very slight lope, liked to rev, but mate only revved it to 5000ish. Clay Smith 282-2 ran it in a 21 stud for a bit, but been swapped out for a stock 8ba cam for setting up n testing, then going back in. Rough hard idle, picks up revs something crazy even with 11" clutch n flywheel. But needs more compression than I have in that engine now. Filled n milled is the way I'm going as its a 21stud, aftermarket heads way to spendy for that engine. Played with an L100 for a bit, 7000+ rpm! Idle good n rough, but don't seem to have lost any bottom end torque. Liked that a lot. Wouldn't mind another at some point. But there's more cams I want to play with first. Got a 404A itch that needs scratching, but it's gonna be an expensive scratch. That Eleminator chap also. We can all dream a little, can't we. Good luck on your quest. And good fun too. Martin. |

Re: Flathead Cams Info needed -what do you have
This is some info from an old Roger Huntington book on the Harman Collins 3/4
Intake opens 19 BTDC, closes 59 ABDC, .320 lift, .011 lash. Exhaust opens 54 BBDC, closes 14 ATDC, .320 lift .013 lash. Sooo a little math and it seems to have 258 intake duration with a 110 ICL 248 exhaust duration with a 110 ECL 110 LSA with 33 degrees of overlap. Caveat: All of the above assumes the H-C 3/4 profile stayed the same throughout it’s production life and that my calculation methods and math are correct.

Re: Flathead Cams Info needed -what do you have
Winfield 3/4, same source as the H-C:
Intake opens 18 BTDC, closes 62 ABDC, .305 lift, .012 lash. Exhaust opens 58 BBDC, closes 14 ATDC, .295 lift .014 lash. Sooo a little math and it seems to have 260 intake duration with a 112 ICL 252 exhaust duration with a 112 ECL 112 LSA with 32 degrees of overlap. Caveat: All of the above assumes the Winfield 3/4 profile stayed the same throughout it’s production life and that my calculation methods and math are correct.
