Default Need to find a 16" wire rim - what years is this from ?

I'm running 16" rims on my 1929 Sedan and need a spare tire. What years would I search for to find a 16" wire wheel like this one? The tires are 600 X 16" and also need the beauty ring and hub cap that says ford - thanks

The wire wheel is 1935. The hubcap is 1932 4 cylinder (available as a repro available from Bob Drake http://www.bobdrake.com/ and probably most other V8 Ford suppliers, also try a wanted ad). I am not sure about the trim ring and there were several (they varied with number of ribs or smooth). Best bet would be to check vender catalogues and then try a wanted ad with a picture. You also could contact people trying to find a set of rings (look for their advertising in the wanted) and see if any of them have an extra of the type you need.

Only one year for this wheel I'm surprised - it might be hard to find a match but thanks

Yes, Gary McLean is a great guy to deal with, I know him.
Billy,
These wheels are not to hard to find. Look at Vermin, my Avatar car. Bill W.

It should be easy to find a match, but don't ask me why there are so many wheels and so few cars for 1935. Unless you are getting ready to paint look at local swap meets or advertise in local club newsletters (Model A's and Early V8's) to allow inspection and save shipping. My guess is a good wheel (hold out for a good one instead of trying to repair a bad one) would be about $30.

The 1935 16" spoked rims are far and away the most common to be found. Apparently they were produced and sold well into the 40's as replacement rims for the earlier cars. I've heard that in the 40's buying the 16" rims complete with tires was cheaper than buying tires alone to fit the 17" to 21" rims.

The '35 16" spoked rims are on eBay all the time, anywhere from singles to full sets in all sorts of shape.

As to "beauty rings" let me know what your's look like (maybe a close up picture), I may have a couple.

I have 6 wire rims in the loft, 4 are one size. 2 are another.

Tell me how to measure to what I have? If one of the '2' are 16" we can deal. I need space as much as I need a few $$.

Its hard for me to wrap my head around rim sizes because I don't know where to place the tape measure to be sure

On my 16" wheels the 16" dimension appears to be the bead to bead dimension. They measure 17 5/8" from outside of rim to outside of rim. Hope that this makes sense.

This is true. 16's measure just over 17 1/2" on the outside diameter, 17's(33-34) are just over 18 1/2" OD, 18's(32) are just over 19 1/2" OD.

This would be a good time to check your other rims and see if they need to be replaced. Jack up the front of the car and spin the wheels. Repeat by moving the rear wheels to the front. Use a pointer (like a pencil taped to a cement block) and measure the rim and not the tire. I don't know what the spec is but I would expect about 1/8 inch both in up and down (roundness) and side to side wobble. Maybe there is something in the archives? You me find you should be looking for more than one wheel.
