Default 46-48 ford or merc coupe fender question

My uncle is working on a 48 ford coupe but one front fender doesn't have any chrome (ss) holes for trim nor has it been filled in. We didn't know what it could have been off of, any ideas

The 1948 Ford and Mercury front fenders will not interchange, as the Mercury is longer to accommodate the 4" longer wheelbase. The USA Mercury never had round parking lights like the 48 Fords did. Please attach photos so that we can see what you have?

at one point, I had a 1946 -1948 REAR fender with no holes.. i believe that it was a repair part, likely originally intended to be dealer installed in the event of a panel replacement. by supplying without holes the dealer could have installed on a ford, or a mercury.. and drilled appropriate holes for stainless trim as necessary

Years ago, I purchased a new rear fender for my 48 Ford. It came without holes for the trim. The trim mounts in different places for the 46-47 and the later 47-48. Also the tail light mounting hole had the knockout plug in place on the new fender. The rear fenders are the same for all three years. The front fenders differ only in the placement of the parking lights.

It's more than that. Other than the holes for the placement of the fender trim it would not just be a matter of making a hole below the headlight to use it as a late 47/48. You have to remember the late 47/48 fender park-light holes were "bumped up" around the circumfirance for the park light gasket to sit on.

Rear fender on 46 have the slot for the bumper brackets up higher on the fender, 47 and 48 had a lower mount for the bumpers, thus a little less slot in the rear for the brackets.

I also have a 42-46 Ford front fender with no chrome holes. In the Ford 1941 to 1948 Ford v8 club book they show 1942 ford deluxe with the chrome moulding Could they possibly be military as some pictures show the moulding and some do not.

1942 Ford Deluxe do not have stainless steel fender trim. Only the Ford Super Deluxe has the stainless steel fender trim.
