Default Lifting The Flatty

Made a little progress on the 53 Merc yesterday getting the seized up engine lifted out to clean up and (hopefully) un-seize.

Thanks guys but seriously, I can't handle the cold like some folks here do. I'm usually dressed up fit for an expedition to the North pole when others are wearing ball caps and thin summer jackets. Is onlly when I am inspired and enthusiastic about a job that I can ignore the cold and get the job done.
I got the engine down nearer the floor today and did a little dirt scraping. Couple of slight cracks near the bolts in the right side exhaust manifold. This engine appears to have been painted light grey or white. Original? Got a number stamped in the bell housing too. At a guess, AC38940. Engine number?

Hey Ralph, I had to chuckle to myself, how many times I have done just what you are doing, laying on the cold cement floor with cardboard ! One big difference is that I am not videoing and I am talking to myself !! It is hard to explain that it really is fun., and sort of a challenge to be able to work under these conditions and at the same time being proud of getting the job completed. As you said it is also fun to plan out your moves, kinda like playing chess when you are depending on yourself! I love it! It is fun to see you progress. All the best from Illinois, Roger

Hey guys we are experiencing a weird weather pattern in this part of the country (Tucson Arizona). It may reach 78 degrees today after a low last night in the 40's. Yet us locals are wearing our flannel shirts, and yes long pants while the winter visitors are in T-shirts and shorts. Both extremes are WEIRD for sure.
Be careful out there and stay safe. Chap

Thanks Roger. I am mostly recording this stuff for my own future reference. And just in case anyone else is interested I use some of it as content for my youtube channel. There is a fairly limited audience for old rusty cars but I do get a few comments and "likes". Plus a few shared stories of others who share this addiction.

I have a canadian merc engine and it appears to have originally painted a light tan/gray color. when I did some research it appears most of the post war engines (Canada) were painted that color--ever heard of that?

This Merc engine is the first one I have that actually has any paint at all on it so I can't comment. The black and white pictures in my books don't help much.
