Default Station Wagon Owners

Does anyone have information on how the spring cover was attached on the floor of the Model A Station Wagon? Photos would help. Thanks!

Yes, it is bolted on from the bottom, with carriage bolts. The white piece is the cover I have, it is fiberglass.

There are strips of wood that go between the cover and the floor along the width of the floor.

Here is the top side.

Do either of you think there is a market for those reproduced out of steel? I am not sure if she will be making the fiberglass ones much longer, ...and naturally the hand-built metal ones will be much more expensive, but I need to make one for a project we are working on, and making one or two more might be an option if there is a need.

Years ago I hand made one for a Model T, but it sure wouldn't pass fine point judging.

i have made seat feet, corner castings and now upper corner brackets for wagons for some time.. the RETURN on investment is SO SLOW i sadly don't think making spares is advisable..

I agree. I have a customer that needed a wood kit from Pleasantville. When Carl (??) closed the doors, it forced me into digitizing all of the prints and manufacturing the wood products myself in-house. My goal is to try to make the bodies a little more dimensionally accurate, and probably only have one on the shelf at a given time.

With regard to the metal spring cover, I think all the sister ever offered was fiberglass, and for some of these wagons that have been made for over 30 years, some are going to need to be pulled apart, stripped, and refinished before long. My thoughts were that some of those people may want to upgrade just to be a little more authentic.

Brattons sells a "metal rear floor pan hump" for the Tudor and Fordor PN 35960. I don't know the measurement for the Station Wagon but the one Brattons has might be close or can be modified to fit.

Brent, I don't know. I got this one from Ruth a few years ago. I just picked up a nice '29 Woody Cowl still with hinges. If I ever get this current project done, I will be looking for a hump, and other stuff. When you have a target price in mind, PM me and maybe I would be interested in ordering one.

The biggest issue I see right now is finding the rear wheelhouse sheet metal. I have some for the '31 I am working on but haven't had any luck finding more.

These are great, THANK YOU SO MUCH fellows! Great Photos.

I had some made in fiberglass since Ruth does not make them any more but they it does not fit completely in the opening, My floor has two lips at each end. Is that lip suppose to be there.

I had to cut an angle, 30ish degrees, on the end of the boards that butt into the short edge of the hump. Just enough to get it to set flat onto the bottom of the floor. Not sure if that is what you are referencing as a lip.

gotta pic?

Hi Woodiewagon46 and group:
After researching what you said, I just finished ordering PN35960 from Brattons. According to their description (dimension) should fit perfect in the opening for the rear spring. I am not sure if the depth will be the same but I will check it with the fiberglass part I have. In Brattons description it states it should be welded in the other vehicles. Perhaps I can modify it by welding a lip to the side so I can fasten it with bolts like it is described above. If this works it can help Brett and other folks working on station wagon's. I will let all of you know the fit when the part arrives.
