F-100 brakes on my'41--Help!
Hi guys,
I've almost got my '41 convertible converted over to F-100 brakes on the front. Everything was working well until I went to hook up the brake hoses. The original '41 brake hoses will not screw into the F-100 brake cylinders..., the male threads on cylinder end of the '41 brake hose are too big (I think 7/16 vs 3/8). And I can't use the F-100 brake lines, because it's a different female threat at the end which hooks up to the steel line. What to do? What to do? I know there is somebody out there who has done this same conversion. What brake lines did you use? Do you have a part number I can reference. Did you use an adapter? Henry Dominguez |

Re: F-100 brakes on my'41--Help!
i haven't had your particular problem, but had a similar mismatch at the master cylinder. There are "inverted flair adapters" as a solution to the mismatch at the flared connection at the steel tube end. I found some at Autozone and some at NAPA. You might have to look in the Weatherhead fitting assortment yourself, most counter persons give you a blank stare. Someone told me that Ace hardware carries them.

Richard Lacy at the Early Ford V-8 Garage has the correct hoses. I don't have the part #, but that is where I got my hoses when doing the conversion.

Henry, Go to NAPA get a Napa #16179 hose, That is what you need no adapter needed. I just put the f100 brakes on my '40 pickup. Have a great night!

Tough call, $50.00 for hoses or $7.00 for adapters.

Henry, thanks for taking the time to post those part numbers, I'm sure they will be helpful to someone some time.

Re: F-100 brakes on my'41--Help!
Though the 450461 (spec'd for 1.5" shaft) has been the traditional seal to use for the F-1/F-100 brake swap; a National # 473441 seal is a better fit on the 1.562” early Ford spindle.
