Default How Many Fordbarners Own An F-1?

That sure is a nice `49 a Fordbarner just posted. Lets see some pictures of your F-1. I have mine tore down again this winter. I am replacing a rear mount in hopes of getting rid of the clutch chatter. Too, it is a good time to clean and paint the floor board, install seat belts, etc.

Here's mine:

Nice truck Shadetree, here's mine, a '51 as well. Our next project is to install a '49 Merc transmission with Over Drive in the F-1.

Vic,
That is a great looking truck, wish mine was the color of yours instead of maROON.

Mikesfordf1, yours was what I was looking for when I found mine. Don't touch it cosmetically, enjoy it as it is.

49 F-1, 226 3 speed 6 cylinder. Restored from a rough rusty old farm truck. Owned 20 years, restoration took 7, off and on. As a kid in the 50s, like any true disciple of Henry, I hated 6s. Today I have to admit the 6s are wonderful engines.

My F-1 is a 1950. I call it the Heinz 57 as it has parts on it from all over the country! It's a long way off from seeing the road.............. It has progressed some since these pics were taken . Glass is all in, interior is 99% done. I have all the sheetmetal, some NOS. Time for body work.

Heres a couple pics of my 50,most of you here probably have seen these before but I'll include them anyway. It was a Texas truck all it's life,it was brought back to Wisconsin about 12 years ago,but just sat in a garage.I found it on Craigslist and bought it.The V8 flatty was stuck when I bought it,I soaked it in diesel fuel and atf for a few days and got it loose. The truck runs really well I've put over 6000 miles on it in a short period of time and it runs and drives awesome. It does use a little oil but I can live with that.I've just fix whats wrong and enjoy it the way it is,I don't plan on restoring it just maintaing it.I'm lucky to have quite a few nice cars but this one I think I enjoy the most,it seems to take my worries away when driving it and I get a ton of complments on it!!It's the slowest and roughest thing I own but I drive it to work everyday reguardless of the weather.I park it for winter when the start salting the roads.

Dick,
Like you I disliked 6 cylinders and mine had one in it that needed work so I changed it out to a V-8. I have heard great comments like yours about the six since. This was the first flathead six I have owned. The V-8 was expensive to rebuild but the swap was easy.

Hillbilly Bob, the '50 Ford car radio is what Ford used in the '51 @ '52 F-1's. Here's a photo of the one in our '51.

Don't have one now but have owned both a 51 and 52 F-1. The 52 had a flat head V-8 and the 51 had a 6 cyl. Still have the tranny out of the 51 and maybe the horns.

Bud - Shadetree - I previously sent pictures to you of the '51 F1 I bought last year - one day, I'll learn how to post them to the 'Barn!! Still a six, and I think I'll leave it that way. Like many others, I SWORE I would never have another six.........but this little truck will pull the world if you can figure out how to attach it!! Makes a great daily toy..........

By the way - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

My F-1 started life as a 1947 International KB-1. The original engine finaly gave up so I installed a 51 Merc with merco matic and the 3.30 rear. A few years later I installed a 42 Foed front suspension and a 525 steering box. I now have a 239/C4 in it, with a 280 flathead in the works. I also have an Eaton blower for the 239. Now all I need are drivers.

Default Re: How Many Fordbarners Own An F-1?

I bought this 52 about five or six years ago. My dad and I were going to modify the 52 and race @ Bonneville. Anyway this 52 happened to be built in the same town and time period that my buddies 52 was built. He drove his over one weekend and we took some pics showing a chevy vs Ford "look see". His is somewhat lowered and has a motor and transmission. My 52 is sans driveline. Regardless since then I have "POR 15'd" the undercarrige and floorpans, added a dropped front axle and installed a 3:00 gear from a 57 PUP. I am building a 4 X 3.5" motor.

Doing a frame off restoration.

Just starting to put my f1 together.

Frame has been straightened and painted.

Now the fun begins.

here's mine. bought it last fall. the 8BA was stuck. i was able to get it freed up and running but it was tired. pulled it out and had it rebuilt by Walt Dupont. went through it mechanically while the motor was out. just took it for first test drive the other day. its back on the lift for some frontend work. steering box rebuild, front spring pins and bushings, king pins. had quite a death wobble when you hit a bump and all that stuff needed attention. I'm going to get the mechanicals in good shape and run it the way it is for awhile.

Here's mine, far from Dearborn quality but I built it when I didn't have a lot of time or money. It's very reliable.

Oh well I as well go off topic. Maybe someday- will be minimum F3. My
hardened mine says; aint got air brakes- I don't want it.
got two more last summer orange F8 and the red F8
the 10 wheeler & 1 of 4 F800's are company trucks.......
all 1953 thru 1956 all are 391FT with OD
all 1949 thru 1950 are 337's with OD (they'l stay that way)

Reason for this post is them two are my boys (I'm snappin the pic)
both have no interest in chebys or no interest anything newer then 1956.
my reason to be proud of them kids instead of being hoo-da-lims
youngest is behind his F350 seems a 23 Model T is his daily driver too !

And over the pond is mine , imported from Ilinois 2 years ago ,bought blind on ebay ,advertised as just jump in and drive ....yeh sure if you are o.k with just one wheel brake the other 3 seized,no parking brake, jumps out of gear ,ring broken on 2 pistons ,steering all over the place, front spring shackles shot etc,the interior, body ,glass ,rubber ,tyres were good with a new bed and tailgate , so he spent the money on looking good but not on safety and reliability.....after 15 months of hard graft and several thousand pounds spent its running great ,looks good is a drive anywhere vehicle and I love it....probably has cost more than its value but I open the garage door see it and smile and the bonus is my wife loves being out in it so ....happy days .

Just wrapped mine up after 9 years. Shouldn't have taken that long, but a job, mortgage, school and 2 kids make the time slip away! She's been every shade of primer.

My 1950 F1. I brought it up from New Mexico several years ago and rebuilt it. It spent 30 yrs. sitting out in the dirt and dust. Now I drive it every chance I get. Its been all over the state of Ohio so far.

Don't own one now but have had a 51 and a 52 at different times. Used them as daily

drivers, to go to and from work, haul crushed stone, wood out of the woods for heating

etc. Wish I had at least one of them back.
