Revisited; Who Sells The Best Adjustable Lifters"
I had my 8BA engine for my F1 rebuilt by a local engine rebuilder. Shortly after the warranty ran out a lifter started tapping, then another. When we tore it down one lifter tappet had backed off an 1/8 inch and I could turn it with two fingers. I don't want to do this again so in your opinion who sells the best adjustable lifters
Thanks to all that responded. Now I have another question, Solid or Hollow? There is a price difference, regardless, I want the ones that are best for my application, a stock engine. I don't want to go down this road again. Thanks so much for your input!

Re: Revisited; Who Sells The Best Adjustable Lifters"
The hollow adjustable types are lighter weight and have less a tendency to want to keep moving up from their own mass/velocity under higher rpm conditions. This was the reason most folks specified the Johnson adjustable types back in the day. There were several other companies marketing them too but Johnson might have been the manufacturer of those.
It sounds like you are painted into a corner a bit with the late types. Wick & Lock type of Loctite or peening the edge of the thread bore might fix things. The best kind of tappet followers were the original hollow non-adjustable type. |
