34 fan question
I am building 34 cabriolet. Original generator, the fan has an approximate 3/4 inch hub. Fan is hitting the upper radiator hoses. I have seen a fan with a hub of 3 3/4 inches. I think the longer would hub would allow the fan to clear the hoses. Is the fan with the longer hub correct for 34 passenger car. Thanks, Phil

Re: 34 fan question
The longer hub fan that you cite is either a '32 or '37 fan depending on the shape of the blades. I doubt if either will work on a '34 with an original intake manifold, generator, and radiator. I don't have a '33-'36 fan handy to verify either the hub length or to provide the overall length of the diameter of the blades; perhaps someone else can provide those.

Re: 34 fan question
Shouldn't the fan be forward of the hoses. That's what the recess in the top tank is for is it not?

Re: 34 fan question
I think he means the length of the hub, front to back.

Re: 34 fan question
33-36 fan hubs are 1" .The 37,38 Pass car fan hub is about 2" .I tried one of those on my old '36 and it was to close to the radiator. Something is up with the location of the water outlets on your radiator maybe. On my old '33 the fan clears the hoses by1/4".A friend machined a aluminum 1/4 " spacer for me to get the fan closer to the radiator. I ended up not using it and went back to stock position.Don't know if this pic helps.

Re: 34 fan question
I also measure it at 1" depending upon where the measurement is taken could be 3/4" the fan blade is about 1 1/4" from the radiator.

Re: 34 fan question
Ok, I dumbed out. Just being a chassis and no radiator support rods on it the radiator was setting on and just supported by the 4 hoses. It was not setting far enough back, causing the blade to hit the hoses.
Thanks to all that tried to help an old Model A guy with his V8 build. Phil |
