Arrow 8RT truck oil pan question

On a 48-52 8RT truck oil pan with the large clean out can I access the oil pump pick up tube without dropping the pan ?
Traced my knocking noise to the oil pan and suspect an interference problem.
Pulled plug wires one cylinder one at time no difference in noise. Oil pressure is fine. All rod/main clearances were good when assembled. Any suggestions ?

OOps, I just read you used the stethescope technique. Glade you found it. Will using a metal rod touching the oil pan and holding it to your ear work?

Please let us know "the rest of the story". Good luck.

Stethoscope, should have checked that sooner. Bought it at Harbor freight, cheap, and works well.

You can not access the tube through the cleanout, only the screen. You could try draining the oil, remove the cleanout and have someone crank the engine while you feel the screen. If the crank is hitting the tube, you should be able to feel it.

Should be able to bend it for sure. It's all right there within reach once that clean out plate is removed.

Be careful bending that tube... I have had some problems with those two attachment bolts stripping over the years while installing tube to pump.
