Engine lopes then dies
I have 30 Coupe that idles very well. Runs very well for about a 1/2 Mile, then it starts acting like it is running out of gas, You can choke it and it will run about a 100 yd.s and the same thing over, if you don't choke it, it will die, but will start right back. I have taken the fuel line off at the Carb and let it run into a container and there is plenty of gas there. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Could the strainer in the carburetor be plugged?

Or, it could be junk at the needle and seat. Only one bolt to check it out.

Vent hole in the gas cap plugged? Swing out the windshield, and when the engine starts to die, reach through the windshield and loosen the gas cap; or just drive the cap loose and see if that helps.

Re: Engine lopes then dies
X2 on a carb cleaning. My car was doing the same thing, run for a little while, then die, I was convinced it was electrical because it was so consistent with how long it ran before it died. Cleaned the carb and it fixed the issue. FWIW I have a tilly on my car.

Re: Engine lopes then dies
Be sure you have that little standpipe filter in the top of fuel shutoff valve----they're a MUST! Then rust flakes & crud can NEVER plug up stuff downstream! I drill a 1/16" hole in the rivet that holds the gas cap together and on through the top of the cap so's I KNOW the tank is vented for sure! Bill W.

Re: Engine lopes then dies
If you had the little standpipe filter in the top of fuel valve, trash would have never gotten to the carb screen. I've even run without a sediment bowl & had NO trash problem downstream. Bill W.
