1941 Merc Pulley
Guys,
I'm dropping my Dad's 41 Merc engine into a 33 Pickup. Missing the crank pulley. Will be using the fan mounted to the generator so don't need the flange on the crank pulley. I know I want a single groove fat belt, but don't know what years will fit in either Ford or Mercury. The shaft measures 1-5/16" OD. Thanks for any help. |

Trelpdx, This doesn't solve your problem, but I thought that I would show Ford Barners pictures of the Engine and Radiator from a 1941 Mercury. The Radiator on this model Mercury is certainly different from the normal Ford Radiators. Check out the Extensions for the Bottom Radiator Hoses. Very unusual. |

Re: 1941 Merc Pulley
Any early style flanged, double sheeve or non flanged single sheeve will bolt on and line up with pumps and generator.
Just measure diameter of the hole to fit your engine...early 21 stud has a smaller diameter shaft. Finding a double sheeve might be easiest then just cut the outer sheeve off in a lathe. |

Re: 1941 Merc Pulley
The later engines after 1938 started to use the long snout type crankshafts. Those early engines used the short snout type so they had their own pulley sheave. The previous mention of using a later dual sheave pulley (one for fan) and removing the front fan sheave is a good one. I imagine the crankshaft fan mount type sheave may also be modified to work if you have the one from the Mercury application. The real early set ups from 32 thru 36 didn't have the water pumps down low so they just had mounts bolted on. Since you will be using the 1937 or later pumps then it may need adapters to mount to the frame in the stock location. I believe that these are reproduced and available but times change so I don't know for certain.

Re: 1941 Merc Pulley
Thanks guys, so what I think I'm hearing is that I can go with Ford or Mercury 1939 and newer and they will fit my shaft (1-5/16"). Do I have it correct?

Re: 1941 Merc Pulley
Thanks guys, I'll look for 39 deluxe to 48 pulley. If I don't want the 39-41 flange then I'm into the 59A pulley 45-48, correct?

Re: 1941 Merc Pulley
It was actually the 21A-6312-A from 1942 that carried through till 1948. You can use the one with the fan mount flange if you want. You just don't put the fan on there. It can be cut down too but there is not as much to cut from it.
