Default grundy alert

just ernewed with grundy after 6 or 7 years, no claims at all. they have a new backer, philly something or other. all of a sudden i cannot take my car to thr store. " limited pleasure, parades, club activities". what a bunch of bull shit. is there any carrier that will let you do things people actually do? excepting driving to work, or school, which i understand. if there is any way to take the fun out of something, someone will find it. i could use some input on this.

Do a search. This has been discussed at length recently. FWIW I have Hagerty.

Hagerty allows pleasure trips, and what is needed to maintain proper operation, etc.. Seems to be a bit more generous about letting the owner actually drive their car than some.

I insure my Town Sedan with AMICA as a regular car along with the rest of the fleet. Probably costs more, but zero hassles. They did suggest that I look at specialty insurance companies, but I put thousands of miles on my car a year and don't want to deal with restrictions and exclusions.

I don't think tha they want you drive your car as a normal car or second car. Once in a while I take my car to the store and then stop by the gas station. I don't think that they would find a problem with it.

I just insure mine with the same company as my modern cars. I also have regualr plates (ie: not historic). Both cost more, but offer no restrictions.

I use JC Taylor. I talked to them specifically about things like that and it is fine. They just don't want you driving it every day like a normal car. Sunday trips, ice cream runs, club meetings, parades, and things like that are fine.

I have had State Farm for 40+ years, they have insured my boats, cars, Model A's, motorcyles, and home; no restrictions on anything and reasonable. Regards, E LaBrash

I have never understood that driving restriction. My Model A's are each worth only about half (and insured for only about half) what my Honda is worth, but I don't have any restrictions on my Honda. And I haven't made a claim on any of my cars, ever, in over 50 years of driving. I won't say anything about the insurance business out of respect for the "no politics" rule, but I will say

I never had a problem with Hagerty. The only thing they are sticky about is that
I have a garage and a modern car to use as a main vehicle and the ability to show proof of insurance on the modern car with a seperate insurance carrier.

I switched to the Barrett/Jackson insurance and have no problems with miles per year driven. They also cover extended trips into Canada. Their rates are pretty reasonable also.

I switched my all my vintage/classic cars to Hagerty four years ago. I got tired of restrictions that the insurance company that my primary insurance company brokered for me.

They would call me up, ask me questions about my vehicles, are they garaged, miles driven, any damage, etc, including direct payment to them. But when I would call them, had to go through my primary insurance to get questions answered.

I pay about $35 more per year, but no longer have any issues like before.

I use Hagerty for both of my A's. Have not had any claims yet so no experience in that area. But getting them set up with Hagerty and putting a value on them was no problem.

State Farm, 10k a year and no restrictions, just like a regular car....

I think many have to chill a bit on the car insurance issues.. Just insure the car like any other car if you drive it and there are no issues.

State Farm will not give you, up front, an ageed upon value for the car ie when it is stolen or what knot ,state farm will tell you, based on some handy dandy formula, what the car is worth. May be less than you think it is worth. I wanted to use State Farm as they insure my cars, house, etc, etc , but with out an agreed upon value and not knowing that I would at least get back what I paid for the car I did not use state farm .Went with Hagerty.

I have stated value insurance from State Farm for several of my cars. I have had it that way for many years. So yes they do.

Pete,Stated value is not agreed value.Lots of people have it thinking it is the same.As long as they never have a claim they never know the difference. As an attorney put it to me,if you have a loss the value is what they state at the time of the loss.Hagerty went from agreed value to guaranteed value on mine.I asked why the change was made if it was the same thing, but I never got a satisfactory answer,so I switched to somebody else.I just switched back to Hagerty, the other company I went with will not comply with N.H. regulations.I was with them one month and I got a notice their underwriter was going to drop my class of insured.I know there are some insurance people reading this that can explain the true meaning of stated and agreed.
