Not in the barn find Roadster pickup

Found this on a recent trip, The owner thought it was a 28 closed cab pickup with the top cut off, but it looks like a roadster pickup to me. The drivers door and tailgate are there but the bumpers and horn are missing along with the left lower hood panel. I can find only surface rust with nothing rusted through. The engine turns over and it was parked there 15 years ago under its own power. It is titled. Other than the headlights from a 30-31 and a chev steering wheel, does the rest look right? It would be about a $600 trip for me to trailer it home. The price seemed fair to me, but any ideas on a fair price would be much appreciated.

I agree that it is a roadster pickup. Carefully calculate what you think it would cost to make it into the vehicle you want. Post this and let the guys take a shot at your numbers. Compare the result with what you could buy one for complete. Do you mean the owner wanted $600 or it or that it would cost $600 for you to get it home?

Look close!.....I think I can see the bolt holes for the rear doors. I think it's a Phaeton.

From what I can see it looks to be a cut down Phaeton to me. Too bad there wasn't a better shot of the rear of the door area, rather than the pickup bed being so prominent in the photo.

Post all of the pictures. You can never tell what will show up. Looking again the left rear fender looks like it is from another make of car, maybe the right one is wrong also.

There is also something wrong with the basic bed. I took a picture of my '31 roadster pickup that should have the same bed. Note that the stake pocket is on the end of my bed in the corner. I think Ford had an express bed it it may be one of those but I am not familiar enough with them to say for sure. Another general factor that should be noted the truck looks like it had a rough life on the farm. You are probably going to find a lot of welds that will need to be ground off when parts are removed. Unless you have a lot more time and money than I do I think I would pass. Take my suggestion and post what you think it is going to cost to build this to the level you want and let the guys comment.

If you can buy it and get it home for $1100, you'll be OK.

OK, now lets chisel down the price.
The spark lever is facing UP instead of DOWN.
It has a 30-1 generator.
It has a 1928 starter switch.
It has the tall water outlet, instead of the 28-9 shorter one.

OK, now how much will he pay you to haul it away?

I wonder if the double pulley on the generator was to run a vacuum pump to milk the cows?

The picture in # 5 looks to be the roadster pickup.Remember,on the phaeton there is a skinny panel between the front and rear doors.Also in pic # 5,it looks to have the line of rivets across the back and down the rear corner holding the back to the quarters.It does have a T bed.

The bed is an odd one, and it clearly has "T" fenders. I don't see anything that precludes it from being a RDSTR PU.
I get so jealous when I see all the finds in Minnesota. Amazing they are still in fields, and usually so solid. Amazing.

It is a Model T box. not that I care because that is what is on my 30 pickup.

I'm not a restoration expert by any means, but from what I see this would be a good project for a "ratrod" style hotrod... I don't know how the barn feels about those. But this truck looks like more work that it's worth just given the way the body has been chopped to pieces.

Agreed, the panel behind the door is too wide, the Phaeton panel is narrower and it also looks like it has two snaps on the drivers side for the side curtains, the Phaeton has only one snap there.

Please no rat rods. I have restored many worse than that one. I do not care what people do with there cars, but rat rods to me are a lazy way to build a car.
