unusual brake drum accessory?
Preparing a pair of front drums for sale and discovered they have an unusual stamped steel collar around the inside of the hub, like some sort of slinger or baffle.
Never seen any like this before in 30+ years. Sent photos to a more knowledgeable friend, he has never seen them before either. What do I have here?

Re: unusual brake drum accessory?
I do not think I have ever seen anything like this before. Could this be some sort of a grease slinger to help keep wheel bearing grease off the linings?

Re: unusual brake drum accessory?
that's what I suspect they are.
must be fairly uncommon. I have looked at many brake drums over the years and never saw any before.

Re: unusual brake drum accessory?
I think it is odd that thing is there. If it were a grease slinger, it seems it would sling the grease on to the brake surface.

That might be some sort of advanced ancient astronaut farmer technology of the 1930's that is far beyond on scientific understanding of today.

It's a cooling fin for the bearing race for those who forget to pack their bearings.

Re: unusual brake drum accessory?
Tom , I think you were joking but that makes as much sense as the slinger theory.....
