Default Valve Job

I am doing a valve job and I need a tool to clean up the valve seats. I used to have a reseat tool many years ago but it has since disappeared and so I would like to buy a new set.

Can anyone recommend a suitable tool?

Thanks

I just finished doing mine a couple weeks ago. Borrowed a friends Sioux Seat Grinder. Bought a flathead pilot for the Sioux unit on Ebay for 35 bucks.

maybe I don't understand what you want to do, but if your doing a valve jop the seats themselves will be cleaned up with the valve seat facing stone, if your wanting to remove carbon out of the valve pocket around the seat or down inside the valve pocket any wire wheel on an electric drill will do the job, or you can just lap the seats with a valve and some lapping compound, either with a hand lapping tool or one that works kinda like a hand drill, can you explain a little better exactly what you want to do

Just looking for a simple recommendation for a valve reseater. The type that has a guide with either a cutter or a grinder wheel. That's all!

Don't worry about carbon or global warming.

I have an old set up that used different grits of paper on different angle mandrels. There is a guide bushing that goes into the valve guide area. It also has a cutter in the set. There was a separate cutter for the valves. You then lap the valves in the seats. This was what I think was a farm type of setup. I have played with it but never really used it on a good engine. No idea how well the whole process works.

Fly with Neway I have used them for 100's of seats.Very precise and are a well recognized repair program. You won't be sorry. Not priced cheaply and you will need a few pieces to complete the job.You will be better off having a machine shop do it as the price will be the same. Doing the job without some seat time "no pun intended " I would not recommend to any one just jump in if you haven't first completed a serviceable valve job. Bin there done that many times. That's my 2¢.

If you end up using a Sioux seat grinder here is a short video that I found helpful.

They produce a nice seat without any grinding dust that comes with the seat grinding and stone dressing mess. Just way to cool aren't they. Glad to see you got it working for yourself. I just finished 5 heads from a flock of Triumph 4 cylinder engines also used bronze liners. They are built like Sherman tanks.

I remember being a stupid kid by brazing two valves together and using sandpaper
taped on the valve spinning with a drill. good ole days. but it did work. But the
real deal even on ebay is pricey. Bout 25yrs ago I bought a used Snap on seat
grinder (with all stones diamond dresser and flathead pilot) for $300. Thing is we
do a fair amount of valve jobs so it paid for itself many times. And a nice Kwik Way
valve facer..

I priced a set of Neway cutters required to do a 3-angle job on a flathead, and the whole set-up (pilot, mandrel and the cutters), came to a total cost of between $350 and $450 (the price variance results from having the choice of 3-blade or 5-blade cutters). I'm saving my pennies. I didn't take time to "shop" the internet, so there might be better deals out there, but this should put you in the ballpark.

If you gonna do stellite seats with neway be aware you need a special blade setup to.
If it doesnt fit in the old PH-2000 i go with the Kwik-way seat grinder.
Grinding is messy but it gives you nice result.
