Default 8 Volt Battery ?

I see that NAPA Auto Stores carry a 8 Volt # 8201 battery by Exide.
Would anyone use this in their Model A and what if any, would be the reason?

To hide bad grounds and poor wiring!

Last week I bought a 1950 Studebaker, and the seller just bought a new 8 volt battery for it. Sure wish he had bought a 6 volt instead. Now I will try to sell it and buy a new 6 volt for it.

It would be good for blowing your light bulbs. There is no need for an 8 volt in a model A. They use to use them in Farmall M's. They were hard to turn with 6 volts, after they had overs size sleeves and pistons installed.

My "A" had an 8 volt battery installed when I got it. The gentleman that had it had installed a cut off switch (under the seat) and apparently the only battery cables he could find were 12 volt cables and W A Y too long, thus the 8 volt battery. I installed short 6 volt cables (from Tractor Supply) and she starts just fine. Funny how that works out. Typically an 8 volt battery is a crutch for another problem.

When I first got into A s, I wanted one of these in the worst way. I used to farm with an international H and had some problems with reliability with the 6V. I looked into it and found that golf carts are the biggest users. They are made by a company named Trojan. After talking to my cousin, who's an electrician by trade and a antique tractor guy for fun, I decided against it. As he said, put some work into repairing and upgrading what you have and it will be fine. And it was.
