59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan
I am building a '32 Roadster and in it is a 59A Flathead.
I have the stock '32 Generator / Fan set up. But...the fan ends up too close to the radiator core...not enough clearance. Anyone had this issue and if so, how was slightly more clearance created? Thanks!! |

I have a 59A in a 32 with a stock fan and it clears. How is the engine mounted...using the stock K-member? Pictures of what you have would be a big help.

How about a picture of your fan, there were several lengths. The 1932 Ford fan was the longest.

I also have a 59 engine in a 32. The original 32 fan is too long, as I have a 4 core radiator. I use a 39 std fan and it works fine. I'm also using original 32 motor mounts.

Motor is mounted with the stock K Frame and stock Motor Mounts.
Maybe I need to find a '39 Fan that will bolt to my Generator.... |

My 32 sedan has a 32 block with a later intake, 33-36 generator and a stock 32 fan. My 32 p/u has a 59A, 39 style generator and a stock 32 fan. They both fit just fine. Neal |

Use a 1933-36 Ford generator mounted fan. They came in different length hubs depending on the year.
Search "193* ford fan" on ebay and you'll see different kinds.

I still don't understand why a stock 32 fan won't work...
I have planty of space between the fan and the radiator. Neal |

Re: 59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan
Yea....Generator is as far back as it can go and the fan is a hair from the radiator core....so with kicked up rpm's the fan may flex into the core.

Re: 59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan
Over the years, I have search hi & lo for an original '32 V8 fan. I am fortunate enough to have obtained two of them. In the 'Green Book', the part # is 18-8600 and it describes the total lengthy from hub base to blade as 4 ˝”. Mine are that dimension +/- 1/16”. I also have a 59AB engine in a stock ’32 frame, stock trans K member and stock ’32 V8 mount. The fan blade easily clears the original V8 radiator.
In fact, I see that I may have move it slightly closer to the rad…maybe not! The ’33 – ’36 fans are much too short….so something is strange on your set-up. Please check the overall length of your fan. Hope this helps Robert |

Re: 59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan
Did you use a 34 wishbone or move the K member? The 32 fan will fit in a 32 if the K member and front crossmember are in the right places.

Re: 59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan
Before messing around, figure out what is wrong or different about your '32. The pulley sheaves on a '32 are same distance from block as the pump set of sheaves on a 59A, so fan should end up in right place. Something is different about your mount location or radiator or something!
Any '32-38-9 generator mount fan will fit the same flange but '32 is the longest, except possibly for some truck ones. I think most other gen mount fans are MUCH shorter than '32 due to the slanted radiators and generally cramped engine rooms in '33-9 Fords and will be way too far from radiator. I believe that even the '42-48 fan should fit, though I have not proven that for myself. |

Re: 59A Flathead into a '32 Frame, The Fan
The engine is not a 1932 block. It is a late 40's flathead....if that makes a difference.
The generator is sitting on top of a vintage Edmunds dual intake with a pair of 97's on top of that. Thank you all for the responses by the way!! |
