KRW tool that i can't identify #1053
Can anyone identify this KRW tool? It looks like some sort of seal or bearing installer?

It is used to pull in the bearing race in the Model A rear axle housing.

Re: KRW tool that i can't identify #1053
Thanks Tom, I wonder why it isn't listed in any of the catalogs? I have a couple ie; 1936, 1934, and one other and nothing listed under 1053?

Re: KRW tool that i can't identify #1053
It looks like KR Wilson No. A(BV)306 used to install the carrier bearing race in the rear axle housing, tool No A(BV)303 was used to remove same. How long is the threaded rod and are there any numbers on the part that centers the race? This may be a combination of parts. The 1053 is a casting number not the catalog number.

I have one.. I believe from looking at it it is NOT Model A. You will find it is shorter than the axle housing and larger at the large end as well. This is listed as bearing installer for 51-57 Ford passenger and 1/2 ton truck, station wagon. I'm obviously a KRW nut which is why I research this stuff. I believe my tool says 7699-N on it. Check the bottom of the large disk on yours. I'll bet it's on there as well. It is listed in KRW Catalog #59 back from the 50's. Larry Shepard |

Larry
You are correct. It does have 7699-N-1 on the bottom. I thought it was something to do with the zip or KRW since that was right after the NY on the bottom. Finally know what it is. I also was wondering about the V13 bushing driver. It looks like you could press distributor bushings in with it. It says it's a driver for water pump bushings I think on the later Fords? Thanks for clearing this up. I don't have any late Fords |

Re: KRW tool that i can't identify #1053
And...historically there are two types of Ford # from KRW. I do not know changeover date, but in Model A-early V8 times the tools had number like the A(BV)306 noted above. That tool could potentially be found as A306 or as ABV306 depending on whether made before 1932 or not. The letters obviously indicate model, also using AA when needed.
These numbers were forged into the tool. At some later time they switched to the Ford root part number, for instance, the 7699 above is the root number for a transmission part, which parts are always in the 7000 group. The letter is a code for the line of vehicles, and seems very non Ford. Many A tools were made after the changeover, and will have the old number forged in the tool and the new stamped! The part number system was kept after Ford switched to Manzel...Manzel made a few tools equivalent to KRW early Ford ones, but of course mostly focused on the late Model stuff. |

Re: KRW tool that i can't identify #1053
I just looked for mine to get a picture,I can't lay my hands on it.I think I made it over to pull in front axle seals in the Dodge 4X4 straight axles.I did find this one though.I have no idea what it fits, but it was in a load of scrap from an old Ford dealer. There were lots of 30's GM special tools in the pile too,so coming from the Ford dealer means nothing.
