head info...
We use a lot of very old heads on our A/B blocks.
I think that 'sealing' old heads is a proper and important idea to help prevent problems caused by porous corroded metal conditions. What sealing compounds and methods have you used and/or recommend for old heads ? Would any of the 'tank' sealing compounds likely work for this purpose |

Re: head info...
While i have never used these products, Page 97 in Snyder's catalog shows a couple. One is Irontite ceramic motor seal . The other is All weather seal. Repairs leaking head gaskets and cracks in cylinder heads, so it says in the text.

Re: head info...
I used Barrs stop leak with water glass in it. Has sealed a leak in the intake manifold of a 4.6 liter ford for 5 years now. Just added it to the antifreeze and that's it. JB

I have used irontite ceramic motor seal in the past and was happy with it. You use it for a day or 2 and then drain it out.
I bought 2 cans and saved 1 to use later. A year later, when I went to use it, it was solid in the bottle. It is not something that you can save. |

Re: head info...
For a very many years, I have used Irontite with very good results. I have ten's of thousand miles on engines with cracks in them where I sealed them with Irontite.
Just be sure to follow the directions. Irontite is not necessarily the correct repair for a cracked block but when an engine is in service, it often will take care of the problem for a long time. I have also used Barrs Leak but only for a leak in the radiator. Most manufacturers even today use a sealer or stop leak solution in the cooling systems of their new cars as a mater of course. Even new castings will occasionally have porosity which will cause a leak if not treated. Chris W. My experience. |

I like the idea of being able to add to anti-freeze, if necessary. |
