I have a set of 48-2020 A1 brake shoes which I believe are early '35 production. Are these any better (or worse) to use than the stamped design by Ford? I intend to install them with '35 drums and backing plates rebuilt with NOS parts on the front of my '34 Fordor for a bit better braking.

I can't seem to find a listing in any of the parts books I have for these, just curious if anyone can offer any info on these?

Those are really cool! I'd have them relined and run them in a heartbeat!

Of course, I'm that way; when I found that my '51 still had the original Ford script shoes, I had them relined and threw the FLAPS parts on the shelf. I think they're still there.

I've accumulated several complete sets of those aluminum alloy shoes. Not sure if they are OEM or after market. They may dissipate heat better than the steel versions.

John, I believe that they are genuine. Perhaps just a different supplier to Ford. If the Archives ever opens up, maybe I can find out more. I first saw them in a KRWilson ad for their brake lining machine. Here are a few more photos.

The set I have are forged steel, not aluminum. I appreciate the information

Paul, I'll have to recheck the ones I have again. I thought they felt lighter in weight than the 35 steel shoes, but they are definitely cast.

Ford most likely discontinued the use of cast brake shoes for a good reason, i.e., the many areas where cracks can develop.

I would not use them.

Are your's NOS brake shoes and lining? If so is the black paint original, am just curious as to the color Ford painted '32-'35 era brake shoes?
