Re: Head Gasket Selection
Never use studs for the same reasons. To each his owm. Thus is why I love the Flathead, theonly wrong way to do it, is the one that doesn't work.

Re: Head Gasket Selection
The Edelbrock recommendation that came with the aluminum heads I bought is for 'Felpro copper sandwich gaskets part no.s 1055 and 1056' (49-53). If this is the manufacturers recommendation why are some people using composite gaskets for these heads? Is it just not a critical factor?
I did a valve grind after 22 years on my other engine that had composite gaskets and cleaning the block and heads was low on fun factor. Mind you, I did use composite gaskets on it again (all that was available at the time), never retorqued them after assembly until I thought about it 3 years later, and there was no movement in the bolts. Hopefully it'll be another 22 years before I pull these heads again ... |
