There is a service kit for that ball stud. If the box and idler are tight then that is most likely what needs to be replaced. The info is on the original thread.

My computer took another dive the other night and it will be a while before I can find it.

Is it better/easier to remove the steering wheel and brake pedal off the shaft? For wire repairs under Dash?

Mainly behind the instrument panel?

When I was young and able bodied, you would lay upside down on the seat and stick your head up there.

But now and taking into consideration of how much repair is needed, doing as you say or removing the seat assy might be easier.

Kultulz, I found some NOS to rebuild both sides of the Control Valve. Need to find and buy the sleeve, that's next, thanks!

I'm over the hill and no longer lithe, I need ease of space to work and it will be a big job to straighten out the wire spaghetti.

That's good! I'd get under the dash that way but w/o that handy dandy support!

Grunt......

It's the Socket Kultulz.
Reading my CD Rom of the parts illustration/identification, it's listed as: 3A754A (Typical). Full number is B5AZ 3A754, under Ford Car Parts Section 36, the 56 year is not listed, just 53/55. Could the car part be mixed with the 57? Ordered both today for tear down/repair near future.

... you know, that is the first time I have noticed that.

No, the design was changed somewhat for the 57/58 model year. The actual CONTROL VALVE 55/56 has a 56 PN so it had to be a superseded part back when. I would guess it takes the B5AZ 3A754-A.

I have the 49/59 MPC FINAL ISSUE and a 1959 dated issue and both read the same.

While you are under there, check the 3C589 and 3C590 bushings also (shown on ILL below). The bushings that mount the cylinder shaft to the idler arm bracket usually are worn from fluid leakage. I should have reminded you earlier but CRS is a constant problem ...

B3AZ 3C590-A - PS CYL Piston Rod MTG Kit
