I've used my AAA a few times over the years for breakdowns on my modern vehicles. Never used it for a vehicle that we weren't actually driving.
Just trying to help keep everyone's rates reasonable.

What you say is logical of course.

If you're a member of the Hagerty Drivers Club you can use your Hagerty Roadside Service. Hagerty are car people so they "get" what odd things car people try/need/want to do with their cars......and if you are a member of their 3rd Gear program, they will even come tow your modern cars too. Their basic level (1st Gear: $45 including towing up to 20 miles) even costs less than the AAA Classic Membership ($47 with discount; towing up to only 5 miles!).

I have used the Hagerty Roadside many times from small jobs like winching my car up a short incline into my garage, to unloading a car out of a shipping container, to pulling an inoperable car out of a storage barn, to moving my inoperable modern car (locked brakes) from in front of my house to make room for the tree trimming service (and they put the car back again after the tree trimming was finished) etc, etc.......and they even call back to make sure that I was happy with the service they provided.

Having a towing company do the work for you is much more efficient if you do not have all of the proper equipment, especially if you have health concerns.

Hope your surgery goes well,
Brad in Maryland

PS: I'm not an insurance salesman, just appreciate the hassle-free towing service provided by Hagerty

Brad - Have to chime in here with a shout-out to Hagerty! Been a member for many years, and their service has always been exemplary ..... No questions asked, just prompt service.

I haven’t used their towing services but I have nothing but praise for Hagerty. They settled a damage claim to my total satisfaction.

Depending on the gradient of the ramp and height of trailer you may want to consider putting a snatch block on your cable, it’s essentially a pulley that floats on the cable, the hook end of cable is connected to near the winch, and the pulley is connected to tow vehicle. You can pick on up at most hardware stores. This doubles the capacity of the pull and reduces stress on the winch. I also agree with using straps connected to the bumper supports and not pull from the frame.
