Week away
I am just off away for a week in the 33 and caravan,
My cooling problems seem sorted , so tomorrow I will drain the water and refill with coolant. The biscuits are just out of my oven and will be appreciated at smoko stops. These are the roads I enjoy, I had left my home town Gladstone, then down the Boyne valley, stopped for a coffee and one of those biscuits at the locality of Kalpowar ,a small,ex railway village, and on to Monto for the night ,maybe 4 deg C overnight, good job I fitted an electric blanket in the caravan. Will post some more pics and info along the way. Lawrie |

Re: Week away
Well I had a lazy day at a small country town called Monto, we often visited here when heading away for a week or so.
They have a nice used bookshop that I always buy a book or two. This morning I drained the radiator and refitted my t/stats and filled it with new coolant. I had a bacon and eggs breakfast at The local cafe and headed off, first thing I notice is water temp stayed cold for about 1 mile then started to heat up ,but kept going towards 95C so I pulled over and just as I did the temp dropped back to about 75C,so I headed back on the road and headed off, keeping an eye on the temp. It stayed around 75-80 C . Down the road a few miles theee is some really nice painted grain silos,AND a stall where they sell farm produce,I bought a couple of packets of Anzac biscuits, home made. 60 miles down the road I pulled in the a real nice feast stop for coffee and one of those Anzac biscuits . But when I headed off the temp again went up to maybe 90C this time before dropping back. The road I’m on is between Eidsvold and Cracow, a lovely undulating country road with hardly any traffic. As I’m cruising along my brain is working,( what’s still functional that is), and I think that I put the t/stats right up in the top hoses with the little breather toggle thing still in them, I think that they pass no coolant until the t/stat starts to open, So at Cracow I took them out and took the little toggle thing out and placed the stats right next to the cylinder head outlet. Looks like they may be good now, but will go exploring in the 33 tomorrow with out the caravan on and see. Pics of the painted silos and countryside from my drone. Other than the small cooling issue ,the 33 is going great.hums along at 50_55 great. Steers nice on the rough parts of the road no worries More tomorrow Lawrie |

Re: Week away
Crackow,an old mining town.
Thought members would like a view of the old mining town I’m stopped at until tomorrow. A lot of history here. The old hospital is now used to make horror movies. I went to the old pub for dinner last night (the white building on the corner)with some couples who also stopped here,to watch the state of origin, great night except for the result(QLD lost). A very cold night ,but the electric blanket worked a treat again. My 33 and caravan sure gets a lot of attention,I tell them when asked what type of car it is, that it’s a Ford, and I didn’t think anyone else made cars, it always gets a laugh. The other day in Monto when I was going for breakfast, I stopped at the door to let three elderly ladies come out,the last one asked if I was in the old car,I tell her yes,how old she asks, it’s 91 yrs old, she tells me she is one year older at 92, I told her she was in great condition, like my 33, we had a good laugh. Cool day today so later I will go for a walk around the town. I will leave here tomorrow and head to Biloela for the big machinery and car show for the weekend |
