700-16 Tubes?
I bought a pair of 700-16 Firestones at Pomona but the dealer had only some bogus looking, too small tubes. Who in the Los Angeles area is a good source for the right tubes. When I asked about rim liners, the sales guy said they use duct tape. What could be better about lumpy duct tape that a fresh powder paint inner wheel would not? Thanks: Fred A

Re: 700-16 Tubes?
You might try some foreign car parts places for the rim liners.

Re: 700-16 Tubes?
Fred. Coker Tire uses the tube for a 600X16 in the larger 700's . It just blows up bigger and fills out the tire with no probems. I've got those tubes in my 750X16's.

Risky place these days... Called about some bearings. Wanted USA but after dirving the 40 miles they offered "import" in a former USA brand for a fat price. The store is now just a shadow of it's former greatness. Bought other imports from NAPA. At this point, Chinese would make me happy and put me back on four wheels. Thanks:Fred A |

Lucas Classic Tires, 2850 Temple Ave, Long Beach CA, 90806 (562) 595-6721 Coker Tire 1-(866)-708-1271 coker.com They will probably need to know if the valve stem hole is in the center of the rim or off to the side. I tried to get tube liners for my '35 Ford wire wheels from Coker's a few years ago and was told they don't exist. They told me to put a couple layers of pipe wrap tape around the inside of the rims where the spokes were. I've mounted a lot of big truck tires with tubes at my work and they always had liners, when I was a kid, my Schwinn bicycle had liners. I assumed everything with tubes had liners? I never tried going to a motorcycle shop, that probably would have been the way to go. Did early Ford cars come with tube liners, if they did, why would something so simple be so hard to find? Re: 700-16 Tubes?
When I drag raced back in what now seems like a long time ago I ran 31x13.5 slicks and a 4.88 spool, we all ran tubes at low pressure and rim beads to keep from spinning the tire off the rim, we used to put weight lifters talcum powder liberally inside the slick to prevent friction boils and blowouts inside on the tube, I highly recommend it, never had a problem and we punished the slicks running mid 8's, tore a tire clean off but never lost a tube to friction damage. Coker should have the tubes.

Re: 700-16 Tubes?
I gave up looking around LA for inner tubes. Ebay was a bust too. I ended up contacted Coker. A week later and $80 lighter I had my 4 tubes. $80!
Well at least they are fresh and new. |

Thanks For The Information
May have the tubes as promised by Pico Wheel in the valley. Getting local dealer to act can be a waiting game. Had to go to Road Kings with the old wheels and tires. Reasonable to expect to drive to the Fathers Day Roadster show on fresh tires. Would hope to park next to AJ's roadster in Specialty parking. Thanks Again: Fred A

Re: 700-16 Tubes?
Just for general knowledge out there. Wallace Wade Tires in Dallas carries tires, tubes, liners, etc. and will ship. I have purchased 16" and 18" tires, tubes and liners there. 214-688-0091

Re: 700-16 Tubes?
For liners, I have heard of two products. At Home Depot and other plumbibg/HVAC supply house, a black vinyl tape used in heating and air conditioning that id made by Nashua Tape, Franklin, KY ( www.tycoadhesives.com ). It is 6 inches wide in rolls and has an adhesive backing. Another item is use of a 12 inch Fatso Inner Tube, cutting a 3.5 inch rubber "band" concentrically from the middle of the tube and stretching it over the inner rim.
