Default Offenhauser/Edelbrock heads 59AB

Why are the Offenhauser flatheads so much more expensive than the Edelbrock flatheads are they that much better?

Price has nothing to do with quality. Offenhauser has taken some huge price increases in the last 2 years and is poised to add another 12.5% the first of July. I would enjoy the Edelbrock pricing while you can as they were bought out by a larger company and that's usually followed by price increases. There's nothing wrong with either comapnies heads but Offenhauser is pricing themselves out of the market.

I hate to even say this, but I think it's about time for the Chinese to jump in here.

These cylinder heads are of the original design, and for the exception of their aesthetics offer little in the addition of power and economy. The average engine built today had 276ci or better nand a set of angled milled 8ba.EAB heads will provide he same CR amd a better combustion chamber. The cost of building one is now beyond reason, even a stock one.

PS
Back to prices going up...the speedway 2x2 ( a copy of the OFFY ) is still

$220. Listed for 8BA but easily used on any Flathead.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here, but it looks to me like the greedy American companies are trying to take advantage of the current situation. With the current level of interest in flatheads, they should be cranking these out like cookies. But nope, all of a sudden you can't get them and if you can, the prices are outrageous. Perhaps if the Chinese (Vietnamese, Indians, Cambodians, or whoever) would get into the market, it would give the American manufacturers the kick in the ass they need.

Two years ago, I wanted a set of header for my engine test stand. On a chance, I ordered a set of stainless steel "center dumps" off eBay for $89.95. The headers were perfect; the only problem is that the fasteners they sent with them were metric! A quick trip to the local hardware store solved that problem in a New York second. After this experience, there is no way I would pay $400 or more for a set of headers, just because they were made in America.

This really has nothing to do with politics, international relations, or anything like it. This is Corporate American Greed, pure and simple, and as soon as we realize it, we may be able to get this country back on the right track again.

I was able to fill in some of the blanks.

Filling in the blanks of V8's post references the Chinese economy and their eating of our lunch. Come on man!.

My buddy Andy has had a set of Edelbrock heads on order since last November - they keep moving the dates out. I gave him a brand new set of Edelbrock heads that I had in my stash - so he can get his project moving forward.

When he finally gets his heads, he'll just give them to me . . . hopefully while I'm still alive!

If they make them like their holley carb bases, I wouldn't touch em with a 10 ft pole. I couldn't resist buying one just for kicks and giggles as they were $15 cdn. The thing is so far out of spec and loosey goosey, I don't think it would even run, let alone the puddles of fuel that would pour out of the side of the throttle shaft.

I have a few sets of Edelbrocks on back order and I'm an Offy dealer. The price has gone through the roof on the Offy stuff and I want to have a few of the Edelbrocks on hand when they follow suit. Supposed to get them mid May I'm told, we'll see.

On the other hand, if they make them like the stainless center-dumps I bought, I'd be all over them.

It depends on the standards set by the American companies that order them. Do you really think there is any kind of a market for flathead parts in China?

Hey Coop, I think I got the first line figured out, without buying a vowel.

That's What's Wrong With our Economy, A.

Who can figure out the rest, get's a free set of Offys, from Coop's stash.

What about Turkey? We can make that cheap stuff too you know.

Why is it always China, China, China with Americans.

We have a corrupt government in place and the same situation with the poor being oppressed by the wealthy as China, but get no love.

I have a nice set of early 49 Offy heads with the angle thermostat housing and the correct housings. Wonder what they're worth. Most guys have never seen a set before.
