Blueprinting an engine ,the process of machining an engine to exact factory tolerances or closer , such as making all clearances to each component the same for instance all rod and bearing clearances equal, piston to wall clearances, equal deck height , combustion chambers etc. to exacting clearances per the blueprint or closer , factory production tolerances are suppose to be close enough for average every day use/ service life. fitting each part to a given spec. or closer with less variation .

A lot of it includes adjusting weights on rotating assembly components to get a good balance. The two terms balance & blueprint usually go hand in hand.

Everything perfect !!! Like the guys said above.
Cylinder bore , line bore , bearing fit, timing gear mesh, ring gap, piston clearance , combustion compresion ratios etc...... Making it all right !!

Blueprinting benefits any engine, but it really comes into play in stock race classes. Blueprinting an engine is a way to out perform an assembly line engine.

I've heard the term grinding a crank to race car specs. This not only means getting the journals round and sized but making sure all throws are the exact amount of degrees apart. I'm not sure what the tolerances are but can see how a rod journal could be worn on one side and it needs to be set up so you're grinding more off the unworn surface.

another term used for grinding to race spec . is Indexing , also a correlation between the cylinder centerlines and the crankshaft index can determine a power gain and longevity as well , My late father went as far as dial indicating the crankshaft to bell housing center for smoothness of operation and longer drive train life, blueprinting and balance tends to (find ) horsepower and longevity not realized by production tolerances .

One time when I told a customer his engine was being blueprinted, he asked for a copy of the blueprints..........
