Squeak when clutch NOT depressed
My car developed a squeak that I originally thought was the water pump, then maybe alternator... tonight I had the floorboards off and noticed it only made the squeak when I wasn't depressing the clutch pedal. See the video link below:
https://youtu.be/Bx5XwItJuD4 I gave the throwout 3 or 4 pumps of grease and it didn't change anything. As an extra check, I took the belt off and the noise is still there. I also checked the front pulley and it does not appear to be rubbing. Thoughts on next steps? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Squeak when clutch NOT depressed
The throwout bearing does have some dried out grease on it.

Re: Squeak when clutch NOT depressed
I had the same situation and my squeak also stopped when the clutch was depressed. My problem was eventually traced to my original front motor mount. Lubricated the mount to frame surface and it went away. It was confusing because you could make it stop with pressure on many different surfaces. Darn those squeaks!

Re: Squeak when clutch NOT depressed
The squeak could be the bearing riding on the pressure plate fingers when in neutral. It should not. Is there 1" of free pedal adjustment and is the spring pulling it back? The grease only greases the throw out bearing collar that rides on the transmission nose cone. Do not over grease.

With the motor running and the clutch released in neutral the throwout bearing should not be spinning. Jerry |

Re: Squeak when clutch NOT depressed
1 inch of pedal free play or free travel is the first place to start. You must have this (or a little more, if you like, but not less). The adjustment to get this is the threaded bit that connects to the clutch pedal under the car. You can find it.
I have a similar noise on one of my cars that I traced to the hand throttle assembly down on the column. If I move the throttle one click off of full up, the noise stops. Crazy! I have tried many things, unsuccessfully, to stop that noise. My point is, it may not be your throw out bearing.

My guess is that it is exciting something else in the area and that is what is making the noise. It's a very light noise. Good luck.

Re: Squeak when clutch NOT depressed
I would get a high pitched squeak whenever my wife rode with me, the solution was to leave her home! LOL
