Default Bent brake operating pin

Just about finished going through my brakes and noticed the drivers side brake operating pin was severely bent. The passenger side had less of a bend, but was still pronounced. What would cause this?

I went ahead and replaced them with some NORS that were straight and true.

Were the bent pins genuine or good quality? If the metal wasn't properly hardened they could bend in regular use.

Wow, I have seen them with a slight out of round but if they were the original pins they are stout and probably heat treated. As Flathead said they could be some old "Ricks" units back from the late 60's & 70's... mostly all the parts from them back then were junk.

Replace with good quality new units and service the remainder of the system to restore as new and you will have good brakes.
