Default Flathead's Done!

Just wanted to post a picture of my final product. Seems like it took forever. The hardest part was cleaning the 65 year old grease off of all the parts I re-used. Finally got it dialed in.

Schneider 254F cam
Zephyr springs

Oh yeah! Finally took it on it's first big road trip last weekend. It's nice being able to climb up hills now and not get CO poisoning from the road draft tube.

I also switched from non-synchro 4 speed to synchro'd 3 speed in the process. Man, what a difference! Thanks for the compliments so far.

Great looking engine!

Does the cam have any lope at idle? How is low to mid range performance?

Not much lope at all, but definitely a little rumbly-er

Low and mid are freaking great, but that's compared to my dog tired stock 239. My friend has a 29 Roadster with a mild but fresh 8BA, and I could definitely blow his doors off.

I may have chosen a slightly bigger cam if I had it to do over again, but I just wanted to pep up my old farm truck, not drag race it. Overall, I'm VERY happy with the results

Nice. Is that rubber fuel close a little close to the header?

The pic makes it look that way, but it's on the other side of the steering box. I'm replacing it all with steel very soon anyways.

Great looking engine. I'm a sucker for 8ba's. Is that a 500 cfm Edelbrock carb?

CONGRATULATIONS on building such a work of mechanical art. Looks beautiful.
Well done. Money well spent as it never gets cheaper to build a flatty.
Just wondering. What carburetor did you use?

Very nice! Glad to see you didn't slap in a OHV. Do you run the stock rear gears (3.73)?

Thank you all so much for the kind words. I'm using an Edelbrock 500. I wasn't really in love with it at first, but it's grown on me. A lot of people say that this is too much carb for a flathead but I feel it's just right, though admittedly it could use some fine tuning still.
I'm still running the stock 3.73s. I have a 9" that I want to put in over the winter. The T87 trans has an absurdly low 1st and 2nd gear, so I might try 3.25s in the new rear

One other point on the Edelbrock 500, is that even though its listed as a square bore, the secondaries are a bit larger. I'm guessing that I'm cruising on the primaries with 200cfm.

have found the Edelbrock carb. to be one of the most tunable on the marcket. However you have to buy the tuneup kit. The carb is rich right iut of the box with the #5 jet set. Ran well but used allot of gas (8mpg) Now running the #11 jet set and getting over 20 mpg with an L-100 cam as well.
