Default 49 trans.

Are there any difference between a 49 and 50 overdrive transmission? Are they interchangeable?

There’s no difference and they are totally interchangeable. The 49-50 convertibles used a special adapter for the solenoid to allow it to clear the frame but even the basic overdrive transmission is the same.

49 qnd 50 are not only the same but they are unique to those two years.

there was a change in 51.
