Default Roof metal / wood /vinyl nailing pattern

'31 Std Coupe (45B)
Nailing roof to top wood question
Obviously small hole is to nail metal to top wood around opening.
Whats the pattern /sequence for nailing vinyl top material /roof trim in the oval holes ?
Two nails each hole ..one at end of oval for vinyl ,other end of oval for trim (hide-em) ?
Seems like a lot of nail holes in a small spacing....

Or
Alternating oval holes , one nail thru vinyl then next oval one nail for trim..?
Tried search function ,could not find info on the hole type I have
Any real world experience /info appreciated
Thanks ,
Stan

I installed the roof an a ‘29 Tudor a couple of months ago. The “oval holes” seemed to be a little longer than what’s in your photo though. For what it may be (or not) worth, I nailed the roof on the right side of each hole and the trim (hide ‘em) was nailed on the left side of the hole. The reason being, once the roof is nailed, it’s hard to know where to nail the trim. That way, you have a pretty good idea of where to put nails. I hope this is of some help. Best of luck.

Dean : Thanks for your reply & info. I measured the oval holes and they are only 1/4" long Spacing is 5/8" on centers. So 2 nails per oval hole seems like a lot to me. And only 5/8" before the next pair.

I'm surprised that I've only gotten one reply to my question ...
Is there no one else that has any info ?...
Thanks ,
Stan

One nail per hole will be fine. Don't hammer them home till ok with fit. Don't try and do this on a cold day got to have some stretch. I put a piece of tape all around the top and marked the holes so I could fine them easy.

Thanks Redmodelt
I had reasoned that I may do one nail thru vinyl in each hole and one nail thru trim and vinyl in every 2nd or 3rd hole depending on fit. Tape and marking around opening will be done also

Ive read the info on installing the vinyl while its warm and sunny...
Thanks for the info and reply

I would nail top in every other hole. And hidem in the remaining. I like the idea of tape marking the holes.
I am replacing some sheet metal on my 30 CCPU, and there aren't any holes! Have to drill every one, ugh!

Whirnot :
That may be the best solution i've heard... The end result after trim install would be one nail in each hole ...and spaced 5/8" apart...
Thanks for that perspective..
