Tires
My '57 Thunderbird has a set of Coker Classic radials. When my right front brake locked up, the wheel got very hot and fatally damaged the tire. I'll buy a new one to replace it but my question is, how reliable are these tires? I've read good and bad but wanted to hear some member experiences. Thanks!

Re: Tires
I have an opinion of coker tires but if you're going to replace just the one tire, stick with a duplicate of what you have. Having a different mis-matched tire is generally not a good way to go.

Totally agree with dmsfrr. I run BF Goodrich Silvertown’s on my ‘57 Bird.

Re: Tires
I ran a set of those on my bird for years. I put Coker bias look radials on my roadster. They balanced fine and are round. Seems to be hit and miss these days. Most of my hot rod tires were done by a specialty shop. They'd run and balance the wheel, check the marking on the tire, check run out on both, etc. Guys who did the work, not just the job.
For 1 tire, I'd take a chance. Just know what you're doing to mount it. I'm pretty sure you do, even if you have to find a local shop. |

Re: Tires
Semi-related question...
How old are the tires on the car? Most tire shops won't service tires over 6 to 8 years old due to potential liability for failures. If they're getting up there, a new pair or a full set may be on your to-do list. |
