16" bent spoke kelsey hayes wheels to later truck
Is it possible to install a set of 1935 16" Kelsey Hayes bent spoke wheels on a 2011 Ranger pickup? The tires are 600x16's on them now. I know about wheel adapters that Speedway sells but not sure how to do this---with disc brakes, etc.. The Rangers wheels are 15x7's. I'm also not concerned about wheel loading from bed loads..

You would probably have better responses on HAMB since this site is primarily for original vehicles. Having said that pay particular attention to the fact that the Keysey wheels need to be supported at two levels or you risk failure. Maybe the adapters from Speedway accomplish this. See: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/.../#post-8330045 If you put your general location in your profile maybe someone would have one you could use for a test fit if you don't already have one.

Going to be tricky. The wheels bolt surface flange is inset by at least 1 1/4" so your adapters will have to be that thick. Then the support ring is needed or whoever makes them can make them with the support.
I just looked at the Speedway ones if your bolt pattern is 5 X 4.5.They are 1.5" thick and have the support as part of it. should work. Last edited by deuce lover; 03-29-2020 at 01:56 PM. |

I wouldn't recommend the change. The wheels you are proposing are not designed for a heavy load and they need center hub support. You would be better off with a set of new wire wheels from a company such as Wheel Smith. They are designed for more load and the centers do not need support rings or adapters.

Buy a set of "Tru-Spokes" or "Daytons" (if they still make 'em) or some other aftermarket wheels. It will probably be cheaper and better than what you are suggesting. Leave the Kelsey's to guys who really appreciate 'em. Jeez.

Besides mounting problems mentioned, 16 bent spoke Kelsey are 40 spoke (?). I wouldn't use them for your stated /intent purpose. I have original Kelseys. BUT, for strength, I got a set of bent spoke Vintique, which have 52 bent spokes....on 5 x 5.5. Mabe you would want to look at those as the are MUCH stronger. I can give you picture, if wanted..need phone no. Last edited by hardtimes; 03-29-2020 at 09:44 PM. Reason: ....... |

Re: 16" bent spoke kelsey hayes wheels to later truck
Ooops….16" bent-spoke Kelseys with a Ford 5 x 5-1/2" bolt pattern are 40-spokers. Like suggested above, please don't waste those on a Ranger pick-up. Anyway, as pretty as those wheels are, it's gonna end-up looking a lot goofier than you may think. But what do I know? DD
