Default Holley G vs. NH

I finally finished restoring my Holley G and ran it on my '15. I'm finding that it's a little harder starting than the NH I had on there, and it won't idle down as slow as the NH. But on the other hand, it seems to have a little more pep and it sounds, I dunno, a little less 'stressed' at cruising speed, like it's breathing a little easier. Is that normal characteristics for a Holley G vs. an NH? Thanks!

The Holley G normally runs fine. You might have the float level off a little bit. Or maybe just experiment with different starting techniques. For example try two pulls on the crank with full choke, then two pulls on the crank with no choke, all with the key off. Then turn the key on. If your timing is adjusted properly you should get a free start every time.

Regarding power output, if both carburetors are properly rebuilt on a stock T the G carburetor makes about 2 - 3 HP less than a run of the mill NH sway back carburetor at top speed. Lots of folks have documented this on a chassis and engine dyno, it's not debatable. The G is a fine carburetor at anything less than full throttle.

Hi Royce,

My T at full throttle would scare me.
In fact it scares me as soon as I get it in high gear and start going down the slight incline on the road in front of my driveway. - or is it called a decline?

The biggest thing is I know that I will have to stop it sometime.

Thanks guys. I did adjust the float level to raise it up to the point where the "puddle" is right to the top of the well. I found that it starts much easier, and I can idle it down to a slower speed.
