Default Brake knocking

Okay
Did some brake work/correcting a few issues on the 39 Merc, one of which the rear shoes were on incorrectly. When I got it all back together and took the first test drive there was a knocking sound coming from the right rear, like maybe the e brake cable had come off and was rapping against the drum every rotation of the drum!! I pulled the drum tonight and I don’t see anything amiss??? Do any of you??? And or have suggestions????

SORRY the upload from the SPYphone turned my pictures for some reason?

Axle nut pulled up tight on taper. Approx 200ft/lbs required here.
Hub slack on keyway and key if above not tight. Would make a similar noise.

I had a similar problem after I replaced axles on my 41. The drivers side eBrake arm was slightly protruding and rubbing against the ridges inside the brake drum. Took me a while to find until I found the wear marks. Made a helluva racket!

I "HAD" it actually torqued to 204lbs by the time the cotter pin hole was able to take the cotter!!! SO by this I was well to the point!!!

look in the drum to see where it was hitting, also see if the shoes are properly seated , sometimes one of the brass "slugs" will fall out when assembling shoes

I don't know if it is the cause of your thumping, but you are missing a clip which prevents the emergency cable return spring from entering the tube. The spring pushes the lever always into the release position. Could the brake shoe be dragging on and off?

To my eye the brake linings appear to be much thicker at the top than the bottom??

If the key was in wrong it could prevent the hub from seating on the taper. The key itself is tapered at one end for a reason.

I think I found my issue.......the E-Brake lever is semi cattywompass and is slightly angled out at the bottom which is hitting the backs of the wheel studs. I believe that the little washer I put between the shoe and the lever instead od between the head of the pin and the lever THUS moving the lever further out than it should be!!!

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions and expert eyes!!!
