Years later in the 8BA V8 design for the 1948 F series bonus built trucks and later cars, they choked down the size of the cylinder head gasket to slow the flow and added larger openings at the back of the engine. This allowed for more flow to the back and forced more cross flow from rear to front in the cylinder head.

Ford had used thermo-syphon on the Model T so the whole idea of a water pump was not really well thought out for the model A engine. The idea of pumping hot coolant from the engine to the radiator wasn't a very good idea. Ford continued this practice of design till 1937 when they finally put the pumps in the block for the V8s. The deflector on the inlet to the block was about the only flow control they had. The only other control would be the size and location of the ports leading into the cylinder head through the head gasket. Most folks agree that the system is better than the old thermo-syphon design but it could have been better.

They also moved the coolant outlet from the centre to the front of the heads.

Here is a water distribution system that works very good on race cars. No reason it will not work on a street machine. The coolant flows reverse from normal.
This car was driven in Los Angeles traffic for 3 days when the temperature was over 100F and never got over 180F.
