Tillotson Round Bowl Carb.
While perusing e-Bay I saw the Tillotson 'Round Bowl' carburetor and I thought it was a copy of a Zenith. And it got me curious. Are these carbs pot metal like the 'Square Bowl' Tillotsons or are they cast iron like Zeniths. Hard to tell from pictures since someone bead blasted the carburetor (I hate when they do that). Also looks like it may have an accelerator pump?
Not looking to buy, just looking for info to fill some of my remaining KB of memory... |

It is pot metal, like the other Tillotsons.

Re: Tillotson Round Bowl Carb.
I have one of them. It is pot metal, but not very good quality. It does not have an accelerator pump on it. I don't know what that extra adjustment does since I have never ran it on a car. It's just on the display shelf as an oddity. Drop by and examine in person if you wish.

Re: Tillotson Round Bowl Carb.
I have worked on both and the Zenith is a much better made carburetor. I find that the threaded holes in the pot metal can be very iffy! You can go through all the work of rebuilding only find that the threads in the body are weak. Ed

Re: Tillotson Round Bowl Carb.
If you have a good core to rebuild, the F-1B is a decent carb. Gaskets are available from Smith and Jones Model A Parts. The float and float valve are the same as Zenith. They are held together with a single bolt like the Zenith, be sure the upper and lower castings fit tight without a gasket before assembling, and be sure all passages are clean. There is an older issue of Skinned Knuckles magazine that has a good article on this carb. with a schematic of the internal passages. There are a lot of these out there so they must have sold quite a few "back in the day".
