FWIW, I am pretty sure it was Bill Stipe that flogged the 6:1 head for Don Snyder. For those that know Bill, that in itself should be the "proof" right there.

Check out the dyno results on Snyder's website. The two heads on an otherwise stock engine show minimal advantage of 6:1 vs 5.5:1. When you start making other modifications (valve timing/cam, increased fuel air mix via carb set-ups) the gap between the two designs widens considerably.

They show it as 6:1 on their web site. http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/ca...mpression-head

This is just common sense. Like replacing the head gasket at the same time. Or buying reclaimed oil.

About 1977 I bought a quart of reclaimed oil for my Corvair, and I swear it came straight from a semi's drain pan without even filtering it.
Never again.

Back in the day in My Dads repair garage, people use to come in and get used engine drain oil.

There use to be a gravel road going up a hill next to the garage. We used use oil on it to keep the dust down. Would not want to try that today.
