Default Wheeler-Schebler?? carb

I have recently come into possession of an aluminum (or pot metal) carb that looks very much like a Tillotson but the float bowl is more squared on the corners and it is held together with 4 screws as opposed to 3 on the Tilly.
It has all the control placement just like a Zenith or Tilly but is more robust.
Does anyone know what this might be and is a gasket available ANYWHERE?
I can send pix if needed.
Many thanks,
Tom Desaulniers

It's an early replacement carb sold by Ford for the Model A after the production years. It was probably also sold retail by retailers. I can't remember where but someone was selling gaskets for it.

Renner's Corners in Michigan has parts for the Marvel-Schebbler-Allstate carb. Got one on my truck I like it better that the other carbs I have.

I have one I bought at a swap meet some years ago. I recently put it on the A and after a little adjusting and sputtering it runs ok. I had to drill out the threads for the manifold bolts and put in helicoils. I did some google using the part numbers on it and found that it was also sold by Allstate as a replacement carb. I did not find any kits or gaskets for it. It is my 3rd carb so it will sit on a shelf.

UPDATE: I just talked to Renners Corner, rennerscorner.com, and the have the complete rebuild kit for this carb. They are great people. You can also purchase individual parts from the rebuild kit. It is listed as rebuild kit #RC-9590-A2 and Allstate carb #2405.

Hi Tom, I believe I may have one of these on my 1930 Town Sedan as I have never been able to figure out what my carb is. Can you please post a picture?
Many Thanks

Tom
My since past friend terry Oberer taught me about those carbs .
They are actually a pretty good replacement carb.
I believe they were typically sold by folks like sears / western auto, etc

I have cut my own gaskets by hand . They are really not that difficult to do. A little ink ingenuity and you can have one in short time . I think mikes affordable has also handled gasket kits but they were around $18 which is a lot
There also use to be someone out there that had them for around a couple if bucks
But I can't find those anymore
The big thing about them is to make sure they have the choke driver /fuel mixture part as it is hexagon unlike stock a , and also the fuel inlet fitting for the fuel line

I have one that looks just like this one. The only markings are made in USA and the patent #. 1,536,043. It is a Marvel carb. Sold by Sears and Western Auto and perhaps others. Mike's "A" Ford-Able parts, has a gasket kit on page 150 of the sedan catalog. They have a rebuilt one on page 151. One of my "A" friends said: if that thing works it will be a marvel.

As Larry said, it's not hard to make your own gaskets. I put a thin layer of grease on the carb surface, then press that onto the gasket material. I then use an Exacto knife and scissors to cut the gasket out. I use a set of hole punches to cut the holes. It took me only minutes to cut the air horn gasket for my 50 Stude carb that would have cost $20 on ebay.

i have one of those carbs that i keep under the seat as a spare. when i bought the car it was running with it and performed excellent. better than any properly rebuilt zenith for sure. i have not used it since because i need to keep the proper carb on it for judging purposes. personally i would spend the money on the gasket from renners, as its a couple bucks and the rebuild kit is 68.00

I've had one of these stuck on the shelf for years without knowing what it is nor from where it came. This thread helps somewhat but we don't have Sears, Western Auto etc here so the plot thickens as to its origin.
The butterfly shaft could do with being re-bushed but if they work as well as some here have said, I just may do it even though I have a Zenith that works very well and a downdraft Stromberg from a 1950's Holden (the locally made and designed GM offering). The Stomberg works very well and they can be obtained for a few $ at swap meets.
I'd order the parts now, only I'm not sure I would ever see them - see my posts on the "Please let me choose USPS" thread. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ht=choose+usps
