A short flex tube is commonly used to connect the two parts.

Mine had a sort of felt inside of aluminum short connecting piece, like a 2 inch hose to bring the heat in. With a good waffle pattern manifold and the door open it works very ell for the passenger, even on a roadster. Not too much heat gets to the drivers side on the roadster. No fumes come in if the heater and the manifold are good and the fittings all tight.

I don't know what size you need but you may look into heater duct/defroster hose for a later car... this for a '55 Ford, 2 1/2" http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_th...g-1955-57.html

Of course you won't need 3'. Check the vendors, maybe someone sells by the foot in the size you need.

I use a short piece of two inch diameter high temp flexible aircraft ducting. If you have a general aviation aircraft mechanic friend, the ducting is often replaced, and he/she might be able to supply you with a used section. It is available new at Aircraft Spruce :

The air cleaner pre heater hose from GM cars that goes from air cleaner to the stove pipe
on exhaust header works well also. Was from 79 Chevy V8.

This heater was an Otwell Model 14 manifold heater and an Otwell brand heater door

SCAT Ducting. Often times the small aircraft repair shops will have (new) short pieces that they will either give you or sell cheap.

This is for my Otwell heater, I took a piece of roof flashing (we call them baby tins) cut to size, folded the edges over about 1/4" then rolled around full beer can, drank the beer, and removed tube. The tube can then be squeezed and slid in from inside vehicle, it expands and doesn't rattle and is easily removed. If your heater and heater door are lined up pretty straight this might be an option for you. Clyde

I used a piece of black rubber flexible garage exhaust hose; it works well.

I've used a piece of duct tape rapped around the outside of heater and the part on the fire wall for the last several years. Don't leak or rattle and put on new ever winter when I put the heater on. This year I used Gorilla tape.
