Original brass Stanco quail
I have an original 30-31 brass quail. Yep brass and they do exist.
The plating is gone but the base metal is superb Opinions as to whether to replate or not. I would work it down myself and it would be a huge time investment Very rare item that I've had for a long time Replate it just leave it alone and in a display shelf? Killing value by replate?? Not sure I would use it on a car anyway. |

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
If replated, it would look like a VINTIQUE re-pro.

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
Since it is rather unique, I would just polish it. Once plated, you can't tell what it's made of.

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
I had a HUGE set of WINGS, that had been "brazed" & finished off nicely, by some TORCH ARTIST. I left them that way & told folks they came from an EAGLE RE-HAB/RESCUE place! Model A STUFF/HISTORY is great FUN!

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
While on this topic, does anyone out there have a 30-31 Stanco quail cap with either a missing or damaged quail? I've got the base & quail but no cap.....Yikes!

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
As other old car people to recommend a plating shop where the owner does the polishing and not just turn is over to an employee.

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
So what are these things worth? Only seen one other brass one and never a copper one. Is the copper one plated copper over something or are you thinking its solid copper?

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
on the note of copper- cleaned out a 55 T bird I just bought and there were collector plates in there from AZ from 1985....................
Look like solid copper to me! never would have believed that. |

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
Ronn....in the state of Arizona the historic vehicle plates are indeed made out of solid copper....in fact the law states that the plates must be made out of solid copper that has been mined in the state of Arizona.

Re: Original brass Stanco quail
And now for the rest of the story- The copper Quail is original- I sent it off to have it Nickel plated-and you have to clean Very Good-copper coat then-Nickel plate, but they broke the quail off the cap-so it came back copper plated saying it was to dirty to nickel plate and broken after about 6 months I got it back. Nice shelf ornament! Have a Great Day!! plates are copper!
