Finally finished
1965 Special Landau is out of the barn! Been a long journey, multiple patch panels, roof repairs and life. Just short of six years. The wife laid claim many years ago. What started as a simple "re-paint" turned into a major project. Found many previous "sins" and those needed to be taken care of. The hardest was finding a good roof to cut the rear portion off to rebuild the rust damage. Fairly happy with the results but most importantly she is happy!

Re: Finally finished
Thanks for the comments guys. The color is Duponts rendition of the stock Special Landau color. Ember Glow. Used on 65 Special Landau only and later on on Mustangs and others in the line up. It is base/cc.

Re: Finally finished
Bill,
I bought a 65 Special Landau new in Denver, CO. Ford sent me a dash plate with my name engraved and a limited edition number on it. Don't have the car any more but still have the dash plaque. Got stopped by the cops about a dozen times the first year because they wanted to watch the turn signals operate. If you have a problem with the motor assembly that operates the turn signals they make a solid state replacement now. My son put one in his 68 Cougar. Congratulations on restoring a very fine auto. Re: Finally finished
The dash plaque is long gone for this one. Not sure if there is a way to figure where this one falls in the sequence.
I messed with the "sequencer" and relay for three days. The years of abuse were not kind to it and the relay. Relay contacts corroded and intermittent sequencing, after three days of climbing in and out of the trunk, (too old and fat to do that kind of stuff), finally got it to work 90% of the time. I did spring for the solid state unit figuring it would only be a matter of time before I would have to crawl back into that hole. Very happy I did that! Old Cars Weekly? Not sure how, didn't submit anything or post anywhere but here and the 57 Ford site?

Re: Finally finished
Very nice body work and paint. Love the color also. In the early 70's I worked at a small Ford dealer, and the owner's daughter had a '68 Cougar. The sequencer bit the dust, and she was pissed that her dad wouldn't spring for the repair. Must have been real expensive even then.

Re: Finally finished
Very very nice, probably the nicest riding car I ever had was a 64 bird. Roll up the windows and with AC on car didn't care what the speedometer read. So much trouble in the 55 limit days. A coast-to-coast car if there ever was one.
