Re: W.W. Tires
Hooch, generally speaking you cannot paint over powder coating. Finishes will not stick to it. You could try and rough up the surface and improve mechanical bonding but there may be incompatibilities chemically. At that point you have ruined the powder coat finish. Also powder coating is very difficult to remove.
IMHO keep the black look or sell them on and start from scratch. Straight and true wheels do not need to be balanced at the speeds most Model A’s see and were not balanced from the factory in the modern sense. The “heavy” spot on the tire was mounted opposite the valve stem hardware at the factory. Last edited by Incognito-A; 10-17-2021 at 04:42 PM. |

Re: W.W. Tires
You can paint over powder coating if you rough it up and take some off with sandblasting. I have done it before in tight situations with epoxy over it. Not something I like to do though' especially on a wheel that can chip. Powder coated wheels just don't match the gloss of a good urethane paint.

Re: W.W. Tires
I would never use powder coating. The wheels on my 1930 CCPU were powder coated when I bought it in a nice burgundy colour. They have faded to a dirty rusty brown colour and they look terrible. I bought the car out of the US so going back to the people who did it is out of the question. I think the job was done in Canada anyway.
I'm following this to see if I can avoid sand blasting al 5 and starting again. That would be expensive.
