Re: Torque tube location
In my limited experience, there should be no play there. That connection should be firm (but free) front to back, up and down and side to side.

The Green Book is your friend! Another good source is VanPelt http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/F...nd-32-48-A.jpg

Re: Torque tube location
There should be U-joint caps available but there are used ones out there too. A copy of the 1928 through 1948 Ford Chassis Parts Catalog (aka the green bible) is a good thing to have and the ones on CD/DVD are not too bad a price.

Re: Torque tube location
Or free is an even better price if you want to download them from the Ford V8 club site. The DVDs are a good deal though because of all the additional data that is included, something like 10 different parts books total I think. Looking at the label it may be 13, have to check.

Re: Torque tube location
Vanpelts catalog shows the part you are looking for, B-4513 available for $20.00. Be sure and get a copy of his 62 page catalog.

Re: Torque tube location
And don't forget the cork or felt seal in the back of the 'clam shell' as its absence will lead to a mess of grease for the u-joint leaking and also add to the fore and aft free play.
