Default Drive train noise

Posted a couple of weeks ago that my car had a horrible noise in the drive train. I pulled the rearend today as as someone suggested I can rotate the drive shaft and it turns smoothly. I pulled the U-joint and there is a little play in it not sure if it's too much. I'm guessing it's the transmission. The last time I drove it the the rear tires locked up and slid. The trans has always been kinda noisy and hard to shift. I'm guessing that a gear has detonated in the case. Transmission will come out this week. any further suggestions?

Does everything turn now? Pull your rear drums off and see why your wheel locked up.

I just went through pulling the rear end and transmission tracing down a noise. I would first check rear drums because that's were the problem started... then I would drain the trans oil and take the shifter off and check the gears to see if you are missing teeth. U joint should have some play in it.. here is a video of mine.

Just make sure you pack the u joint before reinstalling! Keep us updated!

Well.......... I pulled the rearend apart tonite and what I found made me sick. The bottom of the banjo was full of sheared teeth off of the pinion and ring gears. There was even a piece jammed in between two of the ring gears. So now I'm looking for some new pieces. Crap!

Thanks for the you tube link. Mine is just like that. Good to know that's normal!

If the R&P gears are from the sport coupe & you dont live in the mountains, now is the time to install 3.54 gears. They are even cheaper than the 3.78,s.

I got with a club member who has a set of 3.78 ring and pinion gears. The price is right, 50 mile drive to pick them up. BARGAIN!
