Pulley / pump question
I am using a 8ba block with a 42-48 crab distributor. My question is do I use the 8ba truck water pumps (widebelt) and if so what crank pulley will work? The pulley for the truck is too large a diameter to clear the dizzy. OR can I use 59a water pumps and pulley? HELP would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Pulley / pump question
Seeing as how no-one has answered your question, here is my take....if you use 59A pumps, you'll need to use the double sheave truck versions, because they run ball bearings [self lubricated]. The car pumps run bushes which are lubricated through oil passages that are NOT present in 8BA blocks. The 59A crank pulley will fit the snout of the 8BA crankshaft after you remove the sleeve that the front seal runs on. That sleeve is integral with the 59A pulley.

Re: Pulley / pump question
Thanks Brian. I didn’t realize that the truck pumps are different. I would have thought this was a swap that had been done before and there would have been a lot of input.

Re: Pulley / pump question
Yes, I thought you'd have had more input, from more knowledgeable folks than me, so I held off replying earlier. If you use the 59A truck pumps, you'll need to plug the water bypass passages above the pump faces in the 8BA block. And, if you're using 8BA generator, the pulley won't line up with the 59A pump/crank pulley sheaves, but you should be able to carefully drill a new dowel hole in the gene case to suit.
