Cabriolet/Coupe/Sport Coupe Fixed seat backrest upholstery
I'm putting on the cover (Le Baron Bonney) on the seat backrest of my fixed-seat Cabriolet. Although the material is different I believe that the backrest is built and upholstered the same way on fixed seat coupes and sport coupes.
The instructions from LB-B are not complete, so it is not easy to know exactly how it should be done. I have got it reasonably OK, but far from perfect, so the question is, am I doing it right ? The main questions are : - At the side ends I have hog ringed the backing fabric to the spring pack. (see first photo) The top cover fabric is only tied in with the elastic draw string that LB-B put in. Is this the correct way to secure the side edges of the top cover fabric. -Also, at the bottom of the sides, (first photo) how should the material be finished off. (see arrow) - In the second photo, where the material is tacked around the top corners, the material piles up. Should the material be folded in a dart at this point ? Any other suggestions or, best of the best, could anyone post a photo of how an original or correctly restored fixed seat backrest is upholstered ? |

Re: Cabriolet/Coupe/Sport Coupe Fixed seat backrest upholstery
If it is of any help, the rear seat back on my Tudor has cord ties to a tack on the top corners to pull the creases out.
You will have to strenghen that join on the first pic., maybe also with a cord sown in ? |

You might get some help from the Le Baron Bonney web site. If I remember correctly, they have a video showing how to do a front seat. Ed
